What Does DS Mean in a Car? | Simple Guide!

In our previous articles, we already told you about many automatic gear shift modes ( L, M, 4d mode). Now again, in this article, we will tell you about the amazing ds mode in an automatic car. Basically, we will tell you what does ds mean in a car.

What Does ds Mean in a Car?

Like other driving modes, it comes in luxury and high-end cars. Basically, this mode works the same way as the M mode. DS mode is a combination of 2 words. D stands for “drive” and S stands for “sporty”. So, ds means “drive sport” in a car.

Like, the m mode, car companies put ds mode between + and – mode. Without + and – driving modes, ds mode is nothing. These + and – modes work like the pedal shifter. Basically, when someone shifts car in ds mode, and if you push the gear lever towards – mode/sign, this will put your car into a lower gear (for example, if your car is in 2nd gear, this act will put your car into 1st gear).

And, if you push the gear lever towards + mode/sign, this will put your car into a higher gear (for example, if your car is in 1st gear, this act will put your car into 2nd gear). After reading this, you might be thinking, what is the difference between m and ds mode. The answer is, there is no difference between these 2 driving modes.

The only difference is, some companies use the m-word for this purpose and some companies use the ds word for this purpose. Many modern cars come with this driving mode, and Nissan Altima is one of those cars that comes with ds driving mode.
